Met Office: further warning issued for parts of Greater Manchester as January temperatures remain freezing

Snow has fallen across the region this week in what has been a freezing start to 2025. The conditions have led to separate closures of Manchester Airport in the last week.
Temperatures are set to remain close to freezing as we head towards the weekend, and this has prompted yet another Met Office warning. A yellow warning for ice will come into place this afternoon (4pm).

Hide AdThe warning is set to remain in place overnight and into tomorrow morning at 10am. During the warning temperatures will drop to as low as -3C and an icy start to Friday should be expected.
The warning is in place for areas in the west of Greater Manchester. This includes Wigan and parts of Leigh.
Met Office outlook for North West England
January 9
Frosty and locally icy to start with freezing fog patches stubbornly clearing. Wintry showers will push into the south and west; staying brighter and drier in the north. Feeling cold, but pleasant when in the sun. Maximum temperature 4C.
Showers will fade to leave a dry night with light winds. Turning very cold under widespread clear skies with a severe frost, freezing fog patches and icy stretches developing. Minimum temperature -5C.
A bright start to the day away from lingering freezing fog. Wispy clouds may make sunshine hazier at times during the day but will remain dry for all. Another cold day. Maximum temperature 3C.
