Manchester weather forecast: Met Office predicts temperatures of nearly 30C as thunderstorm warning issued

Greater Manchester is set to bask in temperatures of up to 28C this week.

This is according to the latest Met Office forecast. The outlook is for hot, muggy conditions to sweep across the region as we head towards the middle of August.

Summer has been a bit of a mixed bag, but recent weeks have seen a marked improvement with the school holidays in full swing, the good weather is certainly well timed. 

The Met Office outlook suggests that the high temperature in Greater Manchester this week will be 28C on Monday (August 12). This will be only slightly warmer than today, which will see a high of a still very hot 27C. 

The temperatures are set to remain in the 20s until next weekend, meaning that a lovely week is on the cards. The middle of the week will see highs of 23C hit the region.

Met Office warning of thunderstorms

The increased temperatures has resulted in a yellow thunderstorm warning being issued for parts of the UK. This covers some areas of Greater Manchester and is currently in place from midnight on August 12 until 7am the same day.  

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Dan Holley, said: “Along with the rise in temperatures, there is also an increasing threat of heavy rain and thunderstorms on Sunday night and into Monday. This looks most likely across portions of Wales, northern England, Northern Ireland and southern and eastern Scotland, but the advice is to keep up to date with the latest forecast and any warnings by checking our website or app.”

August 11 

Any mist quickly cleared this morning to leave a fine and dry day with lengthy spells of sunshine. Feeling much warmer than yesterday in the strong sunshine with just a light southeasterly wind developing. Maximum temperature 26C.

A fine and warm evening with some late sunshine. Remaining dry for most overnight but an increasing chance of thunderstorms breaking out, these especially heavy later. Uncomfortably warm for many. Minimum temperature 16C.

August 12 

Sunny periods and isolated showers first thing, these perhaps thundery. Cloudier by the afternoon and perhaps turning murky and damp in some coastal areas. Hot and humid, but fresher later. Maximum temperature 30C.

Turning cloudier and much fresher on Tuesday with some rain at times, perhaps heavy overnight. Warmer again on Wednesday with sunny spells. Probably mostly dry on Thursday though rather breezy.
