University of Manchester named in top 10 in the World University Rankings - the only UK university on the list

The University of Manchester has ranked in the top 10 in the World University Rankings by the Times Higher Education Impact Report 2023. The Oxford Road campus had an impressive result which saw the establishment names as the only UK university to rank in the top 10.

The Times Higher Education Impact Rating looked at 1,591 universities in 112 countries and scored them on a variety of areas including Quality Education, Gender Equality and environmental impact. The universities are then given an average score which solidifies its position in the rankings.

The 2023 Impact Ratings is the fifth edition of the report and is led by Australia’s Western Sydney University for the second year in a row. The UK is the most represented in the top 100, with 26 institutions making the list.

It was an impressive performance from The University of Manchester who ranked second on the list beating Queen’s University in Canada and Universiti Sains Malaysia. The university took to their official Twitter account to share the news with their students, saying: “We’re number one in the UK, number one in Europe and second in the world for social and environmental impact in this year’s @timeshighered University Impact Rankings.

“The University is the only institution in the world to rank in the top ten every year that the rankings have been running.” The closest institution in the UK to make the list is The University of Glasgow which ranked at number 13 on the list.

Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, President and Vice-Chancellor of The University of Manchester said: “At The University of Manchester social responsibility is a core goal and is very important to us. So, we’re delighted to be ranked first in the UK, first in Europe and second in the world in this year’s THE Impact Rankings, which are based on our performance against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
