Tragedy as passenger dies after falling ill on Jet2 flight to Manchester Airport from Tenerife

The Jet 2 flight from Tenerife to Manchester Airport had to be diverted to Newquay in Cornwall after the passenger required medical attention on board.

An aeroplane passenger has died after requiring medical attention on board a flight from Tenerife to Manchester Airport in a tragic incident.

The Jet2 plane was returning to Manchester from the popular holiday island in the Canaries when one person who was travelling on board fell ill and required attention.

The flight was diverted to the airport at Newquay in Cornwall but sadly it has now been confirmed that the passenger, who is understood to be a woman, has died. The dramatic and ultimately tragic sequence of events unfolded on the aeroplane on Sunday evening (2 April).

The airline said other people travelling on the flight had attempted to go to the passenger’s aid and thanked them and the crew for how they had handled the difficult situation. It also sent its condolences to the passenger’s loved ones.

In a statement a Jet2 spokesperson said: “Flight LS756 from Tenerife to Manchester diverted to Cornwall Airport Newquay on Sunday (2nd April) evening, due to a customer requiring medical attention. Regrettably, we can confirm that the customer has sadly passed away.

“Our thoughts are with the customer’s family and friends at this very difficult time. We would like to express our thanks to our crew, as well as other customers who provided assistance onboard.”
