A warning has been issued to motorists with the Mancunian Way to close for two days so it can undergo its annual inspection.

Between 5am on Saturday, July 20, and 7pm on Sunday, July 21 it will be closed in full between Chester Road and Fairfield Street. As one of the most well-used stretches of road in the city, the Mancunian Way has regular inspections to ensure it remains fit for purpose.

Diversions will be in place during the course of the works. A diversion via Trinity Way will also be in place. The closure is expected to cause traffic disruption with roads busier than usual due to diversions.

Councillor Tracey Rawlins, executive member for environment and transport said: “As a key transport route for Manchester is it essential that regular inspections are made to ensure its continued safety. It is a huge responsibility to maintain this road, and one that the council does not take lightly.

“Although this will cause some disruption and we thank drivers ahead of time for their patience, I am sure people will appreciate the peace of mind gained from knowing the road is safe.”
