The on-going issues led to bosses cancelling flights “until further notice” shortly after noon on Sunday. It came at the end of a morning which saw huge queues form at the airport following the outage with passengers ultimately told to stay away.

It read: “Following the power outage earlier today that caused disruption to Terminals 1 and 2, we are now in the process of resuming operations and expect flights to restart during the remainder of this afternoon and evening. It remains important that passengers check with their airlines before travelling to the airport.
“We are working closely with airlines to reschedule cancelled flights in the coming days. Flights scheduled for tomorrow should be unaffected and passengers due to travel should plan to come to the airport as usual.

In a video update posted on social media, airport managing director Chris Woodroofe said: “It’s a very difficult situation, I couldn’t be more sorry, the good news is that we very much expect this to be over the afternoon and evening so we’re back to normal operations tomorrow.”
The issue was first confirmed by the airport at 6.30am. In an update at 7.45am, the airport had said while power had been restored, “a number of flights were still likely to be cancelled”. Travel expert Simon Calder has however warned it could be days before passengers are where they need to be.

One T2 passenger Tom Earnshaw, posted on X: “Just chaos at Manchester Airport. Staff really good at managing everyone through but shameful that flights are on final call and not telling us departure times are delayed, rushing us to the gates without time to get food or drink because they're worried about missing our flight. I was meant to fly at 7.15, final call was 6.45. I'm still sat at the gate with hundreds of people with zero comms despite departure time still saying on time.”
He later added before boarding his flight just before 9am: “A very nice Jet2 staff member dealing with a lot of questions has said they're ready to go but simply haven't got anyone's bags yet due to the power cut, so it is a waiting game. He won't give an ETA as he's never dealt with something like this before.”
