The first stage of the 2023 Tour of Britain takes place today and starts off in Altrincham, Greater Manchester. The cycling race will see riders travel through the region, past Wigan and Rochdale before reaching the finish line in Deansgate.
Riders set off from Altrincham at around noon today. They started to reach the finish line at around 4pm this afternoon.
Olav Kooij of Team Jumbo Visma won the Greater Manchester stage. The Dutchman will wear the leader’s jersey in Monday’s second stage in and around Wrexham, the first of two in this year’s race to take place in Wales. Blessed by beautiful sunshine, an estimated 500,000 spectators lined the 163.6-kilometre route from Altrincham.
The cyclists covered more than 100 miles today across the region. We’ve got together some of the best snaps of the riders as they made their way around Greater Manchester.
