The 15 wealthiest people in Greater Manchester, according to the Insider North West Rich List 2023

Insider’s annual North West Rich List has been revealed and it’s dominated by Greater Manchester business leaders and entrepreneurs.

Each year, the magazine delves into the net worth of the region’s wealthiest people and ranks them in order from one to 100. The 2023 Insider North West Rich List has been compiled by Rob Watts, who has previously worked on the Sunday Times Rich List.

There are some familiar names and companies on this year’s list, including Jonathan Warburton and family, owners of the Bolton-based Warburton’s bakery, who came in at 18th, and the highest-ranking Mancunians, Fred and Peter Done, the founders of BetFred, who are third richest in the North West, according to the list. Other notable Mancunian companies featured on the list include Boohoo, Beaverbrooks, Warren James, Regatta and Myprotein.

The only new entry for 2023 is the founders of sportswear brand Castore, Tom and Phil Beahon. The 33 and 30-year old are based in Manchester and made a name for themselves earlier this year at the Ashes.

This year’s biggest risers are also Mancunian. The Salford-born brothers co-founded their betting company, which later became known as Betfred, in 1967. They later went on to also found Peninsula Business Services. They have increased their net worth by £800m, rising from £1.450bn in 2022 to £2.25bn in 2023.
