Sunday Times top schools in Manchester named in 2023 Parent Power list

The annual Sunday Times schools guide ranks the best state and independent high schools and colleges across the city, with Withington Girls’ School leading the way again in 2023.

One of the biggest and potentially most stressful decisions parents will face is getting their child into the best possible secondary school.

Fortunately help is at hand for everyone trying to work out the best place for their child’s education, in the shape of the Parent Power list, the Sunday Times’ School Guide.

The latest edition has now been published and reveals the top-performing state and independent secondary schools across Manchester. As in previous years, the top 10 across the city is a mixture of fee-paying institutions and those which are free for students to attend.

The 30th edition of Parent Power identifies the highest-achieving schools across the UK and uses the first post-pandemic set of results for schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

There are more than 1,600 schools in this year’s list. The rankings in the secondary school league tables are determined by the percentage of examination entries gaining A*-B at A-level (which is given double weighting) and the percentage of entries returning A* and A grades, and those graded 9, 8 and 7, at GCSE and iGCSE.

Here we’ve picked out the 10 high schools and colleges which the guide says are the best in the city of Manchester currently.
