Doorbell footage has captured the moment a freak tornado swept through the streets of Greater Manchester. Around 100 properties in the Stalybridge area had to be evacuated after the weather event at 11.45pm on Wednesday night.

There were no injuries but police did declare a major incident for around 12 hours as emergency services dealt with the damage that saw roofs ripped clean off properties. Some residents described the scene on Thursday morning as "like a warzone".

The new footage gives an idea of the strength of the 80mph Storm Gerrit gusts that peaked with the rare 'tornado'. Dozens of cars were battered by falling bricks, trees and debris with the Carrbrook and Millbrook areas seeing the worst of the conditions.
