Greater Manchester Police and Tameside Council are working at the scene on Thursday morning.

Around 100 properties in the Carrbrook and Millbrook areas of Stalybridge had to be evacuated after a freak 'tornado' hit on Wednesday evening. Thankfully no injuries have been reported but residents have described the aftermath as "like a warzone".

Greater Manchester Police has however declared a major incident with a large-scale clean-up operation under way. These were the scenes on Thursday morning after the freak weather event struck shortly before midnight.
