St Patrick’s Day parade 2023 in Manchester: 10 pictures as Irish community comes together for popular event

Part of Manchester was turned into a sea of green, white and orange as the Irish community in the city came together for the popular St Patrick’s Day parade.

The procession, which included pipe bands, Irish dancers and community groups, gathered at the Irish World Heritage Centre in Cheetham Hill on Sunday (12 March). The parade then made its way down Cheetham Hill Road to the AO Arena before turning around and heading back to the venue.

High-profile attendees included the Lord Mayor of Manchester Coun Donna Ludford, the vice consul general of Ireland for the north of England Carina O’Brien and local politicians.

Tony Hennigan from Manchester Irish Festival said: “It is great to see the St Patrick’s Day Parade back at the Irish World Heritage Centre to launch the St Patrick’s week. The event was a real community event with various Irish groups and organisations involved in the parade which turned the city green.”

St Patrick’s Day falls on 17 March and is now a celebration of the heritage and culture of the Emerald Isle which is enjoyed around the world.

The parade was also among the events helping to get the annual Manchester Irish Festival, which runs until 19 March, under way.
