Former Stone Roses singer Ian Brown has come under fire online following his gig in Leeds during which he performed with no backing band.

Brown, who is originally from Warrington, was playing his first show of a solo tour which is due to see him also perform in Manchester.

Some fans paid £40 for their tickets and were left angry when the singer came onto stage and performed without a backing band.

What has the reaction been on social media?

Although some Twitter users gave some complimentary words on the performance, many who either watched videos of the gig or were there in person were highly critical.

One Twitter user said: “Ouch. Sound up, if you dare.

“Very lucky that whenever I paid good money to see Ian Brown he had a really good band behind him to cover this sort of thing up.”

Another fan who was in attendance at the Leeds gig said: “Gutted to see @ianbrown turn up to his £40 a ticket, sold out gig at Leeds tonight WITH NO BAND.

“I’m a lifelong fan but it was bad. #ianbrown does karaoke and butchers his own tunes.

“Most were too p***** to care but I had to get out after this one. Longsight M13 was a highlight.”

One fan, Adam Thompson, said: "Me and my wife lasted exactly 36 minutes before walking out. I think the auto tune on the microphone lasted three songs.

"Real shame as I was looking forward to seeing him solo as only ever seen stone roses. No band at all was a let down."

One fan who was at the gig and had an enjoyable time posted on Twitter what he thought people who have tickets for other dates should expect.

He wrote: “If you are a fan of Ian Brown’s solo stuff and you have tickets for his tour, you’ll love it but don’t go expecting Stone Roses songs or a backing band as he has neither. Decent night though.”

Where else is Ian Brown performing?

Ian Brown has several other tour dates planned for the coming weeks, including a gig in Manchester.
