Ronald Roose: search for missing man, 88, in Manchester ends in tragedy after body found in canal

The search for a missing man in Manchester has ended in tragedy after his body was found in a canal. Ronald Roose, 88, went missing from East Didsbury at around 7.30pm on Sunday 27 November 2022.

Six weeks of efforts to locate Mr Roose, which included public appeals for information and assistance with the searches, came to an end at around 1.30pm on Saturday 7 January 2023 when officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to reports of a body in the Manchester Ship Canal near Cadishead.

Sadly, the body of a man was recovered from the water, and after formal identification took place it was confirmed that it was the body of Mr Roose.

Detective Superintendent Neil Jones from GMP said: “Our condolences are with Mr Roose’s family and we would also like to thank the members of the public who helped with the search or shared our appeal.”

Mr Roose’s family has thanked GMP, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and the underwater search team for all their efforts in the attempts to locate him.
