The RMT has announced two further days of strike action in their ongoing campaign for improved pay and working conditions. The action is set to fall on two Saturdays in the coming weeks.

The new strike days were announced over the weekend. These are Saturday August 26 and Saturday September 2.

Events are set to be impacted across the two days, with people travelling in and around Manchester set to be affected. Both Manchester City and Manchester United home games will take place on these days- with fans heading into the city by train needing to be aware of possible delays.

City and United fans travelling to away matches could also struggle if they were planning on using the trains. On each of the days, one of the Manchester clubs will have an away day with United travelling to Arsenal on September 2 and City facing a relatively short trip to Sheffield United on August 26.

Manchester Pride Festival, which runs across Bank Holiday weekend, could also be impacted by the strikes. August 26 is the second day of the Pride Festival and is also the day of the Pride Parade through the city. People coming into Manchester for the day may face some delays and cancellations.

Following the announcement of the fresh strike dates, RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: "The mood among our members remains solid and determined in our national dispute over pay, job security and working conditions. We have had to call further strike action as we have received no improved or revised offer from the Rail Delivery Group.

“The reason for this is the government has not allowed them a fresh mandate on which discussions could be held. Our members and our union will continue fighting until we can reach a negotiated and just settlement."
