The Royal Horticultural Society has launched a new scheme that will make it more affordable for thousands of low income families to visit their gardens across the UK, including RHS Garden Bridgewater in Greater Manchester. The Access or All scheme, kicking off on April 1, will allow anyone on Universal or Pension Credit to buy entry to the gardens for just £1.

The scheme aims at allowing people who might not normally have access to gardens to come visit any of the five RHS  gardens around the UK. The scheme builds on existing offers in which groups such as carers with disabled visitors, school children on guided or self-guided school visits, children under 5 and affiliated societies and communities supported by the RHS Community Outreach programme enter for free.

Helena Pettit, RHS Director of Shows and Gardens, says: “One in ten people don’t have a garden or access to one and many can’t afford to visit a public garden, yet green spaces are an important lifeline for so many of us.

“We believe it is vital that everyone should have access to a garden or green space, which is why we have launched our ‘Access for All’ scheme and we hope that many people who might never have thought to visit an RHS Garden before will take advantage of it.”

In addition to the new scheme, shuttle buses to and from the gardens for as little as £2 each way will return on April 1. The bus stops at Manchester Piccadilly Station, Salford Crescent, and Walkden Station.

The RHS Garden Bridgewater is open Monday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm to pre-booked visits only. You can book your visit here.
