Remembrance Sunday is fast approaching and local councils and communities across Greater Manchester are preparing to come together to mark the solemn occasion.

Commemorations take place every year on the second Sunday of November to coincide with Armistice Day on November 11, the day in 1918 when peace was agreed between the Allies and Germany, ending World War I. A minute’s silence is usually observed at 11am, the time the armistice was signed.

In the UK, events are normally held at town and city cenotaphs, where local dignitaries, veterans, religious leaders and members of the public take part in a procession and lay wreaths in honour of servicepeople who have died.

This year, the event falls on November 10. As always, there will be Remembrance Sunday events taking place in all Greater Manchester boroughs. Even if you do not plan to attend a commemoration, the events will likely result in some road closures, therefore it is worth taking note.

Here are all the events that have been announced so far. We will update this article as more are announced.

Rochdale

The parade will assemble at the Flying Horse Hotel at 10:30am to set off at 10:50am. It will arrive at the Cenotaph at 10:55am and the service will begin. There will then be a arch past and the parade will march back to the Flying Horse.  Elsewhere in the borough, services will also be taking place in Heywood, Middleton, Milnrow, Littleborough and Wardle. Details about all these events are available via the Rochdale Council website
