Police say the body found in Avenham Park in Preston is thought to be that of missing Manchester woman Rachel Jackson, though this has not yet been officially confirmed.

Police searching for a Manchester woman who has gone missing have found a body in a park in Preston.

Officers from Lancashire Police say that although it has yet to be officially confirmed it believes the body discovered in Avenham Park is that of 38-year-old Rachel Jackson from Didsbury.

Rachel went missing from the Wadham Road area of Avenham in Preston at around 7pm on Friday 31 March. And police who were searching for her found a body at the green space in the Lancashire city on Saturday 1 April.

Lancashire Police says formal identification of the body has yet to take place but the force believes it is Rachel and has informed her next of kin.

Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with Rachel’s family and friends at this very sad and difficult time.”
