Labour ended a near 30-year Tory stranglehold on a Trafford seat as they stormed to a landslide win in the General Election.

There was always going to be a new MP in Altrincham and Sale West after Sir Graham Brady - long-standing chair of the Conservative Party’s backbench 1922 committee - announced he would not be seeking re-election having held the seat since 1997. It was won by Labour’s Connor Rand with Tory Oliver Carroll second.
