Sir Keir Starmer insisted he wasn’t taking anything for granted as he launched Labour’s General Election manifesto in Manchester.
He made his pitch to voters, backed by deputy leader and Ashton MP Angela Rayner, at Co-op HQ at One Angel Square amid polling showing his party are storming to a majority on July 4 at the expense of Rishi Sunak’s Tories.
But Sir Keir said: “I know that not a single vote has been cast in this election. Polls don’t predict the future. I don’t take anything for granted. Yes, we are enjoying the campaign. I won’t deny that. We’ve waited four-and-a-half years to get to this point.”
On the choice of location, the Labour leader said: “I am proud in this place, in this city, to launch Labour’s General Election manifesto. A manifesto for wealth creation. A plan to change Britain.”
