The grim discovery was made on Monday.
Police have confirmed human remains found close to the M67 in Tameside on Monday by horrified road workers are that of a male aged between 20-28 years old.
Officers were called shortly after 11pm on Monday by road workers who made the discovery close to a bridge between junctions 3 and 4.

The motorway was then closed in both directions for majority of the day so detectives could carry out their work.
A spokesperson for GMP said at the time: “We are working with specialist teams to understand the circumstances behind this incident.
A Home Office post-mortem has since taken place to provide more details, and further enquiries are ongoing.
Providing a fresh update, a police spokesperson added: “It is now known that the body is that of a male aged between 20-28-years-old, approximately 5'5" to 5'9" tall and of medium build.
“The ethnicity isn't known at this stage.
“We are continuing to work with specialist teams to understand the full circumstances behind how the man's body ended up by the bridge, how he died, and to locate next-of-kin to establish an identity.”
