Tommy Fury has been mocked on social media for his performance during the Soccer Aid match on Sunday (11 June). The professional boxer, 24, was part of the World XI team who eventually came out victorious with a 4-2 win over the England side at Manchester’s Old Trafford.

The annual Soccer Aid match, started by Robbie Williams in 2006, sees two teams of celebrities go head-to-head in a charity football match to raise money for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

However, viewers and fellow boxers have taken to Twitter to complain about the Love Island star’s “terrible” performance, with potential future opponent KSI writing: “Tommy Fury should stick to boxing lmao, he’s terrible at football”. Whilst another viewer added: “Don’t invite Tommy Fury again. My 9 year old could have done better than him!”

One social media user Tweeted: “Tommy Fury is one of the worst footballers I’ve ever seen!”, another wrote: “Tommy Fury might be the worst person I’ve seen kick ball”, whilst a third joked: “Chelsea have just bid £90m for Tommy Fury”.

Another Soccer Aid viewer said the boxer made YouTuber Chunkz look like football legend Ronaldo, they Tweeted: “Tommy Fury makes Chunz look like Ronaldo”. Whilst someone else questioned why Soccer Aid don’t ask “half decent” players to get involved, they wrote: “Why do #SoccerAid get so many celebs involved who look like they’ve never kicked a ball before? There’s got to be loads of half decent, football playing, celebrities available before you have to make a call to Tommy Fury or Lee Mack?”

This year’s match, which was the fifth consecutive time the World XI team have won, saw over £14,500,000 raised for UNICEF. Tommy’s team was led by Olympian Usain Bolt, who scored the first goal, before Love Island star Kem Cetinay and former Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane added the rest.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United player Paul Scholes and Sex Education actress Asa Butterfield scored for England, who were captained by Lioness Jill Scott.

Tommy’s girlfriend, Molly-Mae Hague, who he met on Love Island in 2019, proudly watched the match from the stands and revealed Tommy had painted her name and their daughters name on to his football boots. The pair welcomed Bambi on 23 January, 2023.
