Marcus Rashford reportedly paid for a private plane to take him and his fiancée Lucia Loi on a romantic trip to New York last month.

The Manchester United forward, 25, spent £240,000 to make sure it was just them on the Boeing 737 aircraft, which has seats for more than 125 people.

An insider told The Mirror that the private journey was a “grand gesture” and “Marcus is loved up.”

Rashford and Lucia seemed to enjoy their time in the Big Apple, after the England star posted a picture of them in the popular Central Park.

The 25-year-old was taken off the pitch during Manchester United’s FA Cup win over Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday 19 March.

The FA later confirmed that Rashford was ruled out of England’s EURO qualifiers games against Italy and Ukraine, and subsequently on the day of England’s 2-1 over Italy, Rashford was posing in the streets of New York.

This sparked backlash from some of the football star’s Instagram followers, who claimed he “lied”.

One wrote: “Thought u was injured. WHAT A JOKE!!!!”.

Another added: “bro lied 😂😂”

Whilst a third commented: “Aren’t you injured”.

However, England boss Gareth Southgate has defended his trip to the Big Apple. He said: “Once Marcus is ruled out of the squad, it’s entirely up to him how he spends his time.”

Rashford soon returned to action for Manchester United but on Saturday 8 April, he was withdrawn in the 80th minute of the 2-0 home win over Everton after another injury.

The Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag confirmed Rashford is getting treatment, and he was ruled out of Manchester United’s trip to Spain to play Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League quarter final.
