Gary Lineker has revealed that Marcus Rashford is his ‘favourite footballer and human being’. The sports broadcaster, 62, spoke to the Manchester United star, 25, in a “fascinating interview” ahead of the FA Cup final between the Red Devils and local rivals Manchester City.

After the “pleasure” of chatting to the striker, Lineker took to Instagram and Twitter to praise Rashford as a footballer and as an individual. The former Leicester City star wrote: “It was an absolute pleasure to chat with one of my favourite footballers and human beings, @MarcusRashford. It’s a genuinely fascinating interview that will be part of our @BBCMOTD FA Cup Final build up.”

Rashford, who scored his 30th goal of the 2022/23 season against Chelsea on May 25, commented on the Instagram post: “Love you bro ❤️”.

The interview will feature in BBC’s Match of The Day coverage during the build up of the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday (June 3). If City win the highly anticipated match, they will keep the dream of winning the Treble alive which they could achieve when they take on Inter Milan in the Champions League final on June 10.

United were the first and last club in the history of English football to achieve the European treble, after winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in the 1998/99 season, under manager Sir Alex Ferguson. This feat came despite winning no trophies the season prior.
