Marcus Rashford has been inundated with requests from Manchester United fans asking for a signed shirt. This comes as the winger, 25, from Manchester, was forced to miss the Reds’ match against Wolves due to injury on Saturday (13 May).

Fans of the MBE footballer have been sticking behind the England international, some so more than others. A quick search for Marcus Rashford’s name on Twitter reveals hundreds of bizarre tweets aimed at the Wythenshawe-born star.

Marcus’s most dedicated supporters are out in numbers on social media to take part in a viral trend which involves attempting to secure their own Manchester United shirt signed by Marcus himself. Users are logging onto the site daily to tweet the United forward, every day specifying how many tweets they’ve sent out in total. Some have even surpassed 90 consecutive days.

A United supporter under the name @Muhamdd_Ahmadd posted his 92nd instalment of the challenge, writing: “Day 92 of tweeting until I get Marcus Rashford signed Shirt, MR10 👉😤🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 @MarcusRashford is my favourite player & I think it would be unreal to have his signed shirt 👕🔴, so let's give this a go! @ManUtd”.

Other users participating in the trend have been tagging Manchester United’s global head of social media, Nick Speakman, in a further attempt to secure a Marcus Rashford shirt. It does not appear that Speakman has had any interaction with fans regarding the trend so far.

Whilst the commitment from the fans partaking in the trend is commendable, it seems unlikely to pay off. Some shirts signed by the club’s top goalscorer this season are selling for upwards of £400.
