Jake Paul has been told by his returning trainer that he should have never fought professional boxer Tommy Fury. The YouTuber-turned-boxer fell to a defeat at the hands of TNT in a highly anticipated bout in Saudi Arabia on 26 February this year.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer has reunited with trainer Shane Mosley ahead of his fight with Nate Diaz on Saturday, 5 August. The former professional boxer, known as Sugar Shane, guided Jake to a first round knockout in his professional debut against fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib in January 2020.

However, the pair have not trained together since and Shane thinks the YouTuber should not have gone up against Manchester-born boxer Tommy in his absence. Shane told Sporting Post: "Jake probably should not have been fighting that night. He wasn’t prepared mentally or physically. It would have been up to him - I’ve taken fights I should not have taken - but had I been involved I would have suggested postponing the Fury fight by two or three weeks to let him heal a little bit.”

However, the boxer-turned-trainer believes Jake would do “very well” if he was given another chance to fight TNT. This comes as Shane reveals the YouTuber was “sick and under the weather” during the Saudi Arabian bout, adding: “These are not excuses, just facts."

Tommy has won all nine of his professional boxing matches, since his debut against Jevgenijs Andrejevs in 2018, but has not confirmed when his next fight will be. Meanwhile, Jake has won six of his seven bouts, losing only to Tommy.
