I was diagnosed with Alopecia at 11 and wore wigs now I'm embracing bald is beautiful
This is the third time that James has ran this particular race, but he is extra nervous this year due to the fact that he will be running with a group of around 50 people that he has organised.

He said: “I came up the the idea of The Great Bald Run [...] the idea is loads of people running in bald caps or some obviously naturally bald, to raise awareness that we’re all beautiful not just necessarily bald.”

James is bald due to Alopecia, and for years he felt embarrassed.
James said: “It started in primary school and then it go pretty bad in high school. I had pretty long hair to try and hide the bald patches, but it kept getting worse and worse. And then I wore my first wig at prom.”
Adding: “You just feel embarrassed. Your family tries to support you and then you just go into a deep dark place, but I always had friends.”

For those who feel like they may be struggling with their self-confidence, James said: “Our hashtag is Wig Off, everyone has some kind of wig or something that they need to take off and once you just love yourself and embrace that, nothing else really matters.”

Good luck to James and The Great Bald Run team this weekend!
