Marcus Rashford will be out of action for the next few football games due to injury concerns.

The Manchester United striker, 25, was withdrawn in the 80th minute of Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed Rashford is getting treatment for a muscle injury, after The England star left the pitch holding his groin.

Tomorrow (13 April), Manchester United are set to travel to Spain to play Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League quarter final, but it has been confirmed that Rashford will watch from home.

Who is Marcus Rashford?

Marcus Rashford was born on 31 October 1997 and raised in the Fallowfield, Withington and Wythenshawe areas of Manchester.

The 25-years-old is of Jamaican and Kittitian descent, with his maternal grandmother being born on the island of Saint Kitts.

The footballer star has four older siblings; brothers Dwaine Maynard and Dane Rashford, and sisters Chantelle and Claire.

Marcus Rashford attended Ashton-on-Mersey School - where Manchester United sends their academy players due to its proximity to their Carrington training ground.

The striker studied for a Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) National Diploma in Sport.

As well as playing professional football for The Reds Devils and nationally for England, he is a campaigner against racism, homelessness, and child hunger in the UK.

The football star was awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), for services to Vulnerable Children in the UK during Covid-19, in the 2020 Birthday Honours.

Marcus Rashford’s career timeline

2003: Rashford began playing for Didsbury-based amateur football club Fletcher Moss Rangers at the age of five.

2005: At the age of seven, Rashford joined the academy system at Manchester United.

2009: Rashford became the youngest ever player, aged 11, to be selected for the Manchester United Schoolboy Scholars scheme - which is usually reserved for players 12 and above.

2012: Rashford was part of the Manchester United under-15 squad which finished second in the 23rd annual Marveld tournament.

That same year, he began playing for England’s under-16 squad and was selected to play in the Victory Shield by Kenny Swain.

2014: The Guardian named Rashford as Manchester United’s best prospect in the 2014 Next Generation, saying that his "total-football style gives him a fair chance of going all the way".

2015: Rashford began training with the Manchester United first team at the age of 16, under boss David Moyes.

2016: Due to an injury crisis, Rashford was included in the 18-man squad for Manchester United’s UEFA Europa League tie against Danish club Midtjylland. His goals made him the teams youngest ever scorer in European competition, beating a record previously held by the late George Best. However, the record was later broken by Mason Greenwood in the 2019–20 season.

Later that year, Rashford was given the number 19 shirt by boss José Mourinho, marking his place in the senior squad for the new season.

Rashford made his debut for England’s senior squad at the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament, where he wore the number nine shirt.

2017: Rashford made the most appearances of any Manchester United player during the 2016/17 season, playing 53 times.

He was selected by Gareth Southgate to play at the 2018 FIFA World Cup - and scored his first competitive goal for the senior team on 4 September, during England’s 2–1 win over Slovakia in qualification rounds.

2018: Ahead of the 2018/19 season, Rashford was given the squad number 10 following the release of Zlatan Ibrahimović.

Rashford equaled a national record set by Jack Charlton in 1966 by playing a total of 16 games for England throughout the year.

2019: Rashford was Manchester United’s Player of the Month for January.

In summer that year, he signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United, keeping him at the club until June 2023.

2020: Rashford suffered a double stress fracture to the back during an FA Cup tie against Wolves on 19 January. This put him out of action for several months. However, by playing in the game, he became the fourth youngest Manchester United player to have played 200 games for the club.

2021: During the summer break, it was agreed by club doctors and specialists that Rashford would be operated on. The surgery "went well" but he was ruled out until October.

On 6 June, he became the youngest England captain since Michael Owen in 2003, and was later named as part of the Euro 2020 (which was played in 2021 due to Covid-19) squad.

2022: On 30 October, Rashford scored his 100th Manchester United goal in a 1–0 win against West Ham.

Due to a drop in form, he was not called up for England’s March friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast, or again in June for four Nations League matches against Hungary, Germany, and Italy

However, he was named in Southgate’s 26 man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and again assigned the number 11 shirt

2023: On 16 February, Rashford became the third United player - after Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke in 1998 - to score against Barcelona at the Camp Nou during a 2–2 draw in a knockout round play-off in the Europa League.

Who is Marcus Rashford’s fiancé Lucia Loi?

Marcus Rashford proposed to his long-term girlfriend Lucia Loi last May,  after a romantic dinner in Hollywood, whilst on holiday in Los Angeles.

Lucia was born on 23 November, 1998, in Manchester and later graduated from the University of Manchester with a first class honours degree in advertising and brand management.

The childhood sweethearts met whilst attending Ashton-on-Mersey School in Manchester many years ago.

In July 2018, Lucia was in the stands at the England vs Colombia World Cup game where Marcus came on as a substitute and scored in the penalty shoot-out, which saw England progress to the quarter-final.

The pair have also been side by side at a number of movie premieres including Rooney and Rise. The latter of which was also attended by Marcus’ two older brothers Dwaine Maynard and Dane Rashford.
