Olivia Rodrigo said she was “totally bummed” by news her shows at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena would not be going ahead.

A night of chaos on Wednesday saw fans turned away from what was supposed to be the opening gig at the £365million arena from US rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. The concert was cancelled at the 11th hour after a piece of an air conditioning unit fell from the ceiling during a sound check.

The knock-on effect on Wednesday night saw pop superstar Rodrigo’s shows on Friday and Saturday postponed - much to the anger of her army of fans.

Another evening of drama added to a nightmare first couple of weeks for the eagerly-anticipated new 23,5000 capacity venue. The opening has now been postponed three times with general manager Gary Roden already having resigned. Wednesday night’s events also led to title sponsor Co-op calling on operators Oak View Group to give a “full explanation” and outline a “clear plan” for how they were going to get things back on track.

Keane are next due to play Co-op Live on Sunday with Take That having five shows scheduled next week between May 7 and 12. Peter Kay’s twice delayed shows are pencilled in for May 23 and 24.

Rodrigo is the latest artist seeking a rearranged date. Posting on her Instagram she said: “I’ve been having such a great time in Europe so far and I’m sooooo disappointed that we’re unable to perform in Manchester due to the on-going venue-related technical issues. We’re doing out best to reschedule the show.
