Oldham fatal stabbing victim named as Paulo Da Silva as murder suspect charged and due to appear in court

The victim of a fatal stabbing in Oldham has been named and police have charged a man with his murder.

Paulo Da Silva, who was 48, was stabbed on Union Street at around 4.20am on Saturday 28 May.

He suffered serious injuries in the attack and was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

Rui Cardoso, a 31-year-old man from Alma Street in Rochdale, has now been charged with murder by Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

Cardoso was arrested in Ipswich in Suffolk early on Sunday 29 May and was brought back to Greater Manchester for questioning.

He is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday 1 June).

He was remanded in custody after being charged with murder by police.

GMP says it has kept Paulo’s family up to date with the progress of the investigation throughout the process and they are also being supported by specially-trained officers.
