Night trams in Greater Manchester: What people think about a three-month trial for a night Metrolink service

Calls have been made by Manchester City Council for Metrolink trams to run into the night. Night-time trams could be run as part of a three-month trial on the Eccles via MediaCity to Ashton-under-Lyne line after the Liberal Democrats pitched the idea at a council meeting.

The argument for this is it would help boost night-time economy, support late shift-workers, and make lone late-night travellers feel safer getting home.

However, there have been some disagreements, as council leader Coun Bev Craig said passenger numbers have not returned to pre-pandemic levels yet and her Labour administration is already pushing hard to see trams run until 1am on Friday and Saturday nights from next year.

We spoke to people in Manchester to find out what they think of this proposition.
