Filming for a new Netflix series has taken over a street and popular celebrity haunt in central Manchester.

The nightclub MNKY HSE, on Lloyd Street - which runs between Albert Square and Deansgate – is being used for scenes in the upcoming Harlan Coben’s drama, Missing You.

The show, which will star names such as Lenny Henry, Richard Armitage and Rosalind Eleazar, is one of two Coben novels that will be adapted into a Netflix series following the success of Michelle Keegan’s Fool Me Once earlier this year.

Four trucks were outside the swanky club and eatery – popular with influencers and footballers – and signs on lampposts said the 18 pay and display parking bays were suspended today. Although there was no official confirmation of what is being filmed, crew members revealed it was Missing You.

This is not the first of Coben’s adaptations to be filmed in the North West - with Fool Me Oncestarring Stockport’s former Corrie favourite Keegan, being filmed in Bolton, Oldham and Alderley Edge. The hit show’s executive producer Richard Fee previously said the region was a natural choice for filming because of it’s ‘wealth’ of locations.

“We chose to build that geography using locations in the North West because we feel that it offers a lot of wealth of really brilliant locations, from the city centre of Manchester to stately homes,” he said.

Coben is a hugely-popular American writer and 12 of his novels have been adapted for film or television. According to other sources, some of the filming for Missing You has already taken place in Bolton, and Eleazar was pictured in March filming on Hardman Street in Spinningfields.

The thriller will see Eleazar star as police detective Kat Donavon, who sees her missing ex-fiancé Josh on a dating app and begins to dive back into the mystery of her father’s murder, who is played by Lenny Henry.

Missing You has no official release date as of yet but is expected to be on Netflix at the end of the year or in early 2025.
