His next of kin have been informed and specialist officers are supporting them.

Police say the family are “devastated” by the shocking and sudden loss and they are working to establish exactly what happened to him.

PC Phillip Collingwood, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family who are understandably devastated at the loss of their loved one and we’re doing all we can to get the family the answers they need.

“I would ask anyone with information or anyone who may have seen the black motorcycle prior to the collision to get in touch.”

Witnesses or anyone who may have information about what happened should call police on 0161 856 4741 or report it online or via LiveChat at www.gmp.police.uk
