A month-long public consultation on the major expansion has begun, giving the local community the opportunity to have their say on the designs. The expansion includes nearly 900 new homes, which will be a mixture of one, two and three-bed apartments. The ground-floor will be used for commercial units and amenities, such as shops, cafes and gyms.
In terms of landscaping, the plans also include an additional 2.5 acres, filled with rock gardens, rain gardens and podium gardens, as well as stepping stone and water features designed for children to play and interact with.

The consultation is open now until 18 November. People can access the plans and provide feedback online via the Mayfield website. Alternatively, drop-in sessions will be taking place at Mayfield Park arches five and six (near the play yard on Saturday 26 October (10am-4:30pm), Monday 31 October (4-8pm) and Saturday 16 November (10am-4:30pm). There will be another one at St Thomas Centre, Ardwick Green, on Monday 11 November, 3-7pm.
The project is being led by LandsecU+I, a specialist mixed-use regeneration developer, in cooperation with the Mayfield Partnership, which includes LandsecU+I, Manchester City Council, Transport for Greater Manchester, and regeneration and placemaking specialist LCR.
Laura Percy, Senior Development Director at LandsecU+I, said: "Our ambition for Mayfield to be a diverse, green, world-class place for all - whether that's to live, work or play, burns as strongly as ever.

The major expansion of green and the first homes in this new city district, are all extremely exciting. The proposed 878 new homes would also contribute much-needed high quality housing as the city continues to grow at pace. We will be out in the community talking to people, listening to their views and helping to shape our proposals before we submit a planning application at a later date.”
Mayfield Park opened in 2022, the first new park to open in Manchester in 100 years. It is part of a wider £1.5 regeneration project to develop the area.
