Manchester’s first ever Christmas parade was held on Sunday December 11 this year, and thousands flocked to the city centre streets to watch the spectacle unfold. The parade was the first of its kind to happen in the UK and people of all ages were thrilled to be involved with the festive event.

More than 200 people took part and filled the streets of Manchester with the sights, sounds and sparkle of Christmas. The parade was led by Santa Claus himself on a float next to Manchester’s iconic Town Hall clock.

There were candy cane stilt walkers, Christmas elves, Dancing snowmen and even a giant snow globe to entertain everyone along the streets of Manchester. The parade was also accompanied by Christmas music and a live band playing people’s favourite festive classics.

The event was inspired by the city’s famous Manchester-Day parade, which began in 2010, and this festive edition attracted enough attention that the council is considering re-running it next year.

We spoke to Manchester’s Christmas spokesperson, Councillor Pat Karney, to learn more about the event- and he also added he would be talking to council chiefs about whether another could be planned for next year.
