A Met Office weather warning for strong winds is in place across Greater Manchester. The yellow alert runs until 10pm on Monday, April 15.

Gusts of more than 40mph are set to batter the region throughout the day - peaking at around 7pm on Monday evening - with the Met Office warning of potential disruption.

What does a Met Office yellow weather warning mean?

According to the Met Office website, this is what people should expect while the weather warning is in place.

  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
