There are a dozen secondary schools in Manchester which are currently overcrowded, the latest figures from the government show.
Department for Education figures showed that for the 2021-22 academic year there were 12 high schools in the city with more pupils on the roll than they actually had places for.
Altogether across Manchester 37 primary and secondary schools were either at capacity or over it. Across England as a whole 23% of secondary schools, including sixth forms, were either full or overcrowded.
The Education Policy Institute think tank says schools running above capacity places extra demands on teachers. The Government said almost 1.2 million school places have been created since 2010 and more are in the pipeline.
ManchesterWorld has taken a look at the city’s overcrowded secondary schools and just how much they are over capacity according to the latest data.
