The Manchester boozer has lots to offer and has received national recognition

A Manchester pub is celebrating this week after being named as the winner of the Community Hero accolade at the Great British Pub Awards. The Old Abbey Taphouse took the national award at the 2023 edition of the awards.

The pub describes itself as ‘a community hub in a pub’ and has plenty going on to engage with the local area. Located in Chorlton-upon-Medlock, The Old Abbey Taphouse serves local ales, fresh food and is also a live music venue.

There is something to look forward to almost every day of the week. A noticeable feature of the weekly calendar is the Tuesday Curry Club.

On these days, customers can head along to the pub and pay whaty feel fo ther their food, rather than a set menu price. This takes place from 7pm each Tuesday.

The pub is easily accessible from Manchester City Centre, and isn't too far away from Manchester Metropolitan University. A 30 minute walk from the Northern Quarter, the Old Abbey Taphouse is also just behind Manchester Museum.

Another quirky feature of the pub turned music venue is that it has its own radio studio. Bookings can be made to loan out the space via the pub’s website.
