Manchester City Council has unveiled its latest expanded plans to boost walking and cycling in the city centre and is calling on the public to have its say.

The plans centre on the Deansgate and Whitworth Street areas and include building new segregated cycle lanes, improved facilities for pedestrians and a 20mph zone.

Meanwhile, thousands of people in Greater Manchester are living with diabetes but do not know it because it has not been diagnosed, NHS data has suggested.

The figure could be as high as 20,000 people unaware they have the condition. Diabetes UK has encouraged anyone worried about symptoms to contact their GP.

And finally, Manchester’s new Lord Mayor says she ‘would never have dreamed’ of being appointed to the civic role after growing up in care from the age of six months.Clayton and Openshaw councillor Donna Ludford wants to ‘break down barriers’ while in office.
