Dashcam footage shows Manchester joyriders racing Audis at 100mph from Castlefield to near Old Trafford

Shocking dashcam footage captures the moment three joyriders raced their own Audis though Manchester - at speeds of more than 100mph.

April Farnworth, Nabil Adil and Oliver Rothwell waved at each other as they overtook each other at breakneck speed - racing their powerful motors from Castlefield to Wharfside Way in Trafford, on May 30, 2020. Footage seized from the dashcam of Farnworth's Audi A4 shows the cars gathering speed in convoy with each other.

Their powerful engines can be heard the vehicles accelerating harshly as they travel at well above the 30mph speed limit in the city centre. As they raced down Chester Road, Manchester, at excess speed, they’re seen to run their first red light.

Greater Manchester Police said members of the public and cyclists were 'put in danger’ by their 'reckless behaviour'. As the street race continued through White City Way, the trio were seen driving in tandem and waving at each other.

They continue at speeds of over 100mph, ignoring further red-light signals and pedestrian crossings. At one point, Farnworth can be heard giggling and boasting: “I f****ing beat Nabil on that straight." She can then be heard saying: “I think we need to start driving nicely now."

But they continue to maintain high speeds as they pass Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium at excessive speed. Police said after their sentencing the comments highlighted they knew how dangerously they were driving, but that 'they didn’t care'.

The trio, who had met at a car park in Manchester city centre before heading for Bolton for a car meet and a photo shoot, were eventually stopped by police. Roads Policing Officers, conducting high visibility speed checks at Wharfside Way, Trafford, captured the trio on a laser device travelling at almost 80mph. Farnworth was stopped and an investigation was launched to identify the other drivers. All three were sentenced on Friday at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court.

• Farnworth, 27, admitted dangerous driving and exceeding the speed limit and was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £245 and ordered to carry out 100 unpaid hours work.
• Rothwell, 29, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was been disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £245 and ordered to carry out 100 unpaid hours work.
• Adil, 27, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £695 and ordered to carry out 200 unpaid hours work.

Speaking after sentencing, sergeant Antony Hannon said: “This group treated our roads like a racetrack, placing members of the public in real danger. They travelled in excess of 100mph in busy residential built up areas, racing each other with no regard for anyone else."
