The shopping centre saw a rise in footfall and leases during 2023, and has confirmed plans for the 12 months ahead.

Manchester’s Arndale Centre moved to near full capacity last year according to bosses in charge of the complex - with more plans in place for the next 12 months. Some 13 new businesses moved in during 2023 and 12 extended their stay.

The centre has been a part of Manchester’s shopping and leisure scene for almost 50 years and bosses are hoping for a big year in 2024. Big brands such as Nike, Moss, Manchester City, Dune, Clarks, Sunglass Hut, and French Connection all moved in during 2023 alongside growing operators such as Sides, Creams, Black Sheep Coffee, and Lazy Sundae.

The centre has also managed to secure long-term lease renewals for many of its popular brands including River Island, meaning its store will remain in the centre for the foreseeable future.

With expectations of a positive year ahead, Arndale bosses have outlined the new businesses set to open up in the centre this year. The North Face has already opened its new shop, with others set to follow. Korean supermarket Oseyo, fashion brand Lounge, and local leisure operator King Pins are all expected to open stores in the Arndale during the early stages of this year. These will add to the around 200 businesses that trade out of the shopping centre.

Scott Linard, Portfolio Director for M&G Real Estate, said: “2023 was a hugely successful year for Manchester Arndale with the rise in footfall and flurry of leasing activity across the centre testament to the team’s hard work and strong relationships with shoppers and leading brands. From working with our long-term occupiers to enhance their stores, to welcoming new names, we hope that 2024 will be an equally exciting year for Manchester Arndale as we look to provide a great retail experience for our visitors and further add to our impressive retail line-up.”
