Manchester Airport evacuation over ‘suspicious package’

Manchester Airport had to be partly-evacuated for a few hours yesterday (Tuesday 19 October) following the discovery of a suspicious package.

Passengers were asked to leave Terminal Two at around 3.20pm.

The authorities said “standard procedure” was followed as Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to the airport.

That meant a large police cordon was put in place while the package was checked out by a bomb disposal team and people in the vicinity were moved to a safe distance.

Flights were moved and instead departed from Terminal One on Tuesday afternoon.

GMP concluded from its investigations at the scene that it was satisfied there was no security threat.

Terminal Two then reopened later on Tuesday evening.

A Manchester Airport spokesperson thanked passengers for their patience while the incident was sorted out.
