Manchester airport reopens runways following temporary closure due to heavy snow

Manchester Airport has this morning announced it has reopened both of its runways. The runways were closed this morning due to heavy snowfall and the airport announced the closure shortly before 6.30am.

At around 8.45am this morning, an airport spokesperson said that operations had restarted. They said: “Following the temporary closure of our runways, we are pleased to announce that operations have now resumed. We thank passengers for their patience.

“Passengers are advised to contact their airline for the most up-to-date flight information.”

According to analytics firm Cirium, 154 flights are scheduled to depart Manchester Airport today (19 Jan). Ryanair has the largest number of departures (31), followed by easyJet (26) and Jet2.com (10). There is a yellow Met Office warning for snow across Manchester until 12pm today. The airport will keep passengers updated through its social media pages following on from its reopening.
