Man found dead after early morning flat fire in Greater Manchester

A man has died in a fire at a flat in Greater Manchester.

Emergency services responded to the incident on Railway Road in Leigh at around 3.45am today.

Four fire engines from Leigh, Atherton and Hindley were dispatched alongside a drone and aerial appliance from Stretford.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels, ladders and other specialist equipment to extinguish the flames.

Officers discovered the body of a man upon entering the property.

An investigation has been launched by Greater Manchester Police, but no arrests have been made so far,

A spokesman for SMP said: "No arrests have been made at this stage, but enquiries are still in their early stages and ongoing with a scene remaining in place that will impact the local area.”
