Man dies after being hit by tram at Deansgate-Castlefield stop in Manchester

The accident happened on Sunday night and police are appealing for witnesses.

Police are appealing for information after a man died after being struck by a tram at the Deansgate-Castlefield tram stop.

Police were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a tram at 11.10pm on Sunday (5 December).

Emergency services attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Sergeant Matthew Waggett, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident and enquiries are ongoing to establish what happened in the moments leading up to the collision, and to fully understand how this collision occurred.

“We would ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have been on the Metrolink platforms at Deansgate-Castlefield in the moments leading up to the incident to please get in touch with police as soon as possible.
