The force says it believes a pint cup filled with coins was thrown from from the upper tier down to the lower tier in the stadium at around 8.25pm during the match.

It hit a 15-year-old girl and caused an inch-long laceration to her head. The teenager was taken to hospital for medical attention.

GMP are continuing to search for the personal responsible for the incident and are once again appealing to the public to come forward if they have any information about what happened at the match.

Superintendent Gareth Parkin from GMP said: “GMP will not tolerate violent or malicious behaviour in any situation, this does NOT exclude football matches or sports games.

“Clearly throwing objects in a confined area can be dangerous and have serious and sometimes devastating consequences.

“We are continuing to investigate this incident and would urge those who attended the game who know who is responsible or could have any information to assist us further, to please come forward.”

Police said information can be reported by calling 101 or using the reporting tool at the GMP website here. Anyone passing on information should quote log number 1880 of the date 22/12/2022. Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
