M62 closed in both directions as man dies following incident involving a pedestrian being struck by vehicle

The M62 has now partially reopened following an incident being struck with a vehicle in the early hours of this morning. The road was closed in both directions between Eccles and Birchwood following an incident which Greater Manchester Police were called to at around 12.15am. 

Emergency services attended the scene, but sadly one man was pronounced dead.  A 25-year-old man who remained at the scene was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, he remains in custody.

The road was closed for over 12 hours as officers conduct their investigations. Diversions were in place for motorists. 

The newly launched Bee Network Twitter/ X site issued an update shortly before 8.30am this morning. The account confirmed that the M62 remains closed between junctions 11 and 13 due to a police incident. 

Shortly before 5pm, they updated their account to say that the road between junctions 11 and 12 had reopened.
