But when the £365million venue opened it was beset by problems, leading Liam to joke he would ‘Gig at Lidl’ if the 23,500-capacity arena wasn’t ready in time for June 15.
Thankfully it is, but that hasn’t stopped bosses at Lidl marking the amazing event that nearly was having let Liam know they would definitely host his gigs if he wanted. Emblazoned with ‘LIAM GALLAGHER, LEGEND ‘ALMOST PLAYED HERE’ JUNE 2024’, the memory will live forever at the Newton Heath store in Manchester - a stone’s throw from where the frontman has been confirmed to play.
Manchester Taxi Tours has also joined in and is offering to add the plaque stop to its tours if Liam’s fans want to see the spot for themselves. The plaque will be on show from June 14.
