A huge new social housing plan could be coming to Wigan and Manchester may be welcoming another synagogue if plans are approved. 

A total of 74 new affordable rent homes could replace two blocks of flats in the Newtown area of Wigan if the council gets their way. The new synagogue planned for the Crumpsall area of the city-borough would replace an old Victorian house which is used as small apartment complex at the moment.

Bolton

Plans for former pub and car park to become industrial estate

A former pub and nearby car park are set to be redeveloped into a small industrial estate. Plans have been published this month to convert the former Anchor Inn pub on Eagle Street, Bolton into a ‘co-working space’. An area next door to the pub currently used as a car park would be used to build four light or general industrial units, each spanning around 1,000 – 1,500sqft.

One of Bolton’s most recognisable buildings is set to reopen as a coffee house and offices. The former Preston’s of Bolton building on Deansgate has been vacant since the ‘diamond centre of the north’ jewellers closed down in 2016. London based LBC Group Ltd have submitted plans showing how they plan to transform the interior of the four storey building.

Bury

Plans to convert former pub in conservation area into flats and build terraced homes alongside

Plans have been submitted to convert the former Lord Raglan pub into four flats and build six new houses at the site. The former pub is in the village of Mount Pleasant on Walmersley Old Road. The terraced houses are to be two bedroom properties and will enjoy open view towards the West Pennine Moors.

Manchester

New synagogue planned for Crumpsall

Plans have been submitted for a new two-storey building that would be used as a synagogue. Applicants Kehillas Crampsall want to transform an old Victorian building which currently houses six flats into a centre for the Jewish community in the area. The new religious facility would sit on the corner of Middleton Road and Moxley Road if approved.

Beswick could soon get a new 20 metre high telecommunication mast

A telecommunications company wants to erect a 20 metre high 5G mast in the Ashton Old Road area of Beswick. The applicant, Cornerstone, says this would help improve internet connectivity in the area. They have stated there is no cause for concern in regard to health.

Rochdale

New supported living apartment could replace old petrol station

The old Mount Green Filling Station could be turned into supported living accommodation for vulnerable people. The Halifax Road site in Wardle, if plans were approved, would become a site with 17 supported living apartments complete with office space and an entrance hall. Plans also include a break out area with communal space for residents and visitors.

Stockport

Private school looks to make extension to their hall

Lady Barn House School has submitted plans to Stockport Council to extend their ‘multi-purpose hall’ to improve storage. The private school based at Schools Hill, Cheadle has said that proposals would facilitate an internal reconfiguration of the changing rooms and create a new disabled access toilet. A multi-use studio would also be introduced on the ground floor, with a flexible retractable partition wall. 

Tameside

Large homes plan lodged again

Proposals to build two four-bedroom semi-detached houses on The Square on Fir Tree Lane in Dukinfield have been resubmitted. It follows an application for two dwellings being refused on the same by the council in May earlier this year. The latest plans by applicant Ben Lawton include ‘significant amendments’, the reports state.

Apartments plan for the heart of Altrincham town centre

A plan to convert the upper floors of a building in Altrincham town centre into a complex of five apartments has been submitted. The accommodation on the upper floors of the office building on George Street will be augmented by the building of second and third-floor extensions and dormer windows to the front and rear. The Applicant is 21 Living Ltd, and the property is in the heart of the town’s busy shopping area.

Fire-damaged council houses could be replaced with dozens of new flats

Old council homes in Wigan that have been ravaged by fire damage could be replaced with two new apartment blocks with 74 flats. The site that sits between Scot Lane and Robin Park Road, if approved, would contain 67 one-bedroom flats, five two-bedroom flats and two wheelchair accessible flats with one bedroom. The proposal is to demolish the existing residential buildings, which are now partially vacant following fire damage.
