Specialist teams from GMP began searching in the area around the country park and Keano’s body was found in the water around lunchtime on Good Friday (7 April). Police said one of the two men who had been arrested during the search for Keano has been eliminated from their enquiries. The force has said it still does not know how Keano’s death happened and it is continuing to investigate.

What has happened in the search for Keano Byrne?

Police have now confirmed the search for Keano has come to a sad end with the discovery of his body at Reddish Vale Country Park. A formal identification process confirmed the body found in the water was Keano. However, police say the post-mortem examination was inconclusive when it came to establishing a cause of death and the investigation into what happened to Keano is continuing.

Police arrested two men, one aged 26 and one aged 30, while they were looking for Keano. They were both released pending further investigations but police have now confirmed no action will be taken against the 26-year-old man, who has been eliminated from the inquiry.

Keano was last seen in the early hours of Sunday 26 March leaving Northumberland Road in Brinnington and walking towards Reddish Vale with another man.
